-Uncle Sam is looking for qualified professionals who want to bust a lock for national security.
Locksmiths are applying in droves to work at the CIA after the agency posted a want ad on its website on June 19th. Already more than 180 locksmiths have applied, agency officials said. “We have plenty of locksmiths to pick from,” said Mark Mansfield, agency spokesman. “We can only hire a small fraction, but the response has been beyond our expectations.”
CIA officials won’t say precisely what work they want them to do. Agency officials did acknowledge they aren’t suffering a rash of people locking keys in their cars at the staff lot at the agency’s Langley, VA, headquarters.
According to the ad, “The Central Intelligence Agency is seeking locksmiths to work with the best minds in the country while performing a mission critical to our nation.”
It also says: “Knowledge of electronic and manual safe lock servicing, electricity and alarms is ideal. Knowing how to operate machinery to fabricate lock parts and tools will be beneficial.”
The positions are only open to U.S. citizens. Travel both domestic and overseas, is part of the job, the ad says.
